Media Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough

Take your learning across disciplines in our media studies program — you’ll gain a strong, practical knowledge of the latest media theories and combine them with critical practices in culture and journalism. Throughout your experiential courses, you’ll develop a deep understanding of the role of media in shaping every aspect of modern human interaction. You’ll apply your analytic skills to critique media texts, and investigate the complex relationship between media, politics and the economy.

We’re the only academic unit across all of U of T that gives you the chance to systematically study current media cultures. We take a comparative approach, to explore how media cultures are shaped by and interact with globalization. Your courses will dive into how media shapes knowledge from philosophical, historical, literary and artistic perspectives. Our program gives you the intellectual groundwork to excel in careers in media industries and media-related sectors.
