A delegation of senior administrators from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission visited the University of Toronto Scarborough campus on Friday, May 28 as part of an ongoing effort to build partnerships between educators in China and at UTSC.
A trio of visitors arrived for a tour of the UTSC campus. They were: Lian Ping Xian, Director-General, Education Supervisory Office of the Beijing Municipal Government; Yao Linxiu, Program Officer, Division of Development and Planning, and Zhang Ming, Program Officer, Division of International Cooperation and Exchange.
The visitors were accompanied on a campus tour by Professor Rick Halpern, Dean and Vice-Principal (Academic) and Georgette Zinaty, Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations, along with Jack Martin and Margaret Yan – Green Path Program Administrators. The tour was followed by a meeting to discuss educational partnership and potential for shared initiatives.
The visitors are here as part of a reciprocal visit to China last month by Halpern, Yan and Martin. The corresponding visits are part of an initiative aimed at nurturing relationships between UTSC and Chinese educational organizations. The Green Path program, which welcomes many students from the People’s Republic of China to our campus each year, is a key part of the ongoing relationship between UTSC and China. “These visits also help develop academic and research collaborations with Chinese universities and research institutions in Beijing,” according to Yan.
Officials from both groups say they hope these professional exchanges and tours will contribute to the forging of ongoing ties between educators in both countries.
