A research paper exploring the benefits of experiential gifts has landed Assistant Professor Cindy Chan the Robert Ferber Award from the Journal of Consumer Research.

The Robert Ferber Award competition is held annually in honour of one of the founders and the second editor of the Journal of Consumer Research. The award is given to the best article appearing in the journal from the most recent volume based on a doctoral dissertation.

Chan won the award for her paper "Experiential Gifts Foster Stronger Social Relationships Than Material Gifts" that found experiential gifts are more effective than material gifts at improving relationships from the recipient’s perspective.
