U of T Scarborough will welcome a duo of highly-regarded and award-winning writers to campus as part of IFOA@UTSC.

“We’re so pleased and fortunate to have partnered with Lit On Tour and the International Festival of Authors (IFOA),” says Andrew Westoll, Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in creative writing and English at U of T Scarborough and host of the event.

“By bringing a few of these remarkable artists to campus, our students get to experience the excitement of IFOA right here in Scarborough.”

The International Festival of Authors (IFOA) is Canada’s largest writer’s festival that takes place every October bringing authors from around the world to Toronto to discuss their craft. This year Governor General’s Award-winner Rachel Manley will join business leader and civil rights activist B. Denham Jolly on the IFOA@UTSC stage.

“IFOA@UTSC has quickly become a flagship event for the Creative Writing program here, and for the English department as a whole,” says Westoll. “Aspiring writers and book lovers from across campus get to listen to acclaimed writers read from and discuss their work.”

Both Manley and Jolly have an intense personal relationship with Canada and with Jamaica, both as nations and as homelands, notes Westoll. “I can’t wait to hear the conversation that results.”

The authors will read from their latest books followed by an on-stage conversation and Q & A with the audience.

The event, which takes place Oct. 25, 2017 in the Ralph Campbell Lounge, is free to all U of T Scarborough students, faculty and staff.
