What have Chinese-led development projects brought to Africa since the 1960s? Based on research findings from ethnographic fieldwork conducted over 16 months since 2015, this talk explores the hopes and struggles on a sugar plantation managed by a Chinese state-owned corporation in northern Madagascar.
