Mahinda Samarakoon received his Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Toronto and M. Sc in Statistics and Applied Probability from the University of Alberta. In his research, he studied limit theory for heavy tailed stochastic processes. He has been teaching courses in Statistics and Probability at the University of Toronto since 1998. He joined the University of Toronto Scarborough in 2004 and since then he was working on various positions. During this period he has contributed to many textbooks in Statistics. He is currently serving as the program supervisor of the Statistics major and minor programs at UTSC, since 2010.
