Create Your Own Placement

CTLB03 will not be offered in the Fall 2020 term, but will return for the Winter 2021 term.

The typically “in-class” lectures will be remotely offered (synchronously) through Quercus.
Placements will involve students working with community partners remotely or, if necessarily onsite, with strict safety precautions in place.
We appreciate your patience while we work with community partners to develop engaging, yet safe, experiential learning opportunities. We hope to start posting Winter 2021 placements by Fall 2020.
If you do not see a suitable placement of interest on our list of available placements or you have an interest in or connection with a particular community organization, you are welcome to create your own placement.
Please follow these steps:

  1. Find a community organization with whom you would like to carry out a 10-12 wk, 5-7hrs/wk service learning placement with. The placement activity must be related to your area of academic study.
  2. Contact the community organization and tell them about CTLB03 Introduction to Community Engaged Learning. Be informed before approaching them:
  3. For more information about course objectives, their role and responsibilities and about service learning, in general, direct the community organization to
  4. If they are interested in participating in the program and taking you on as a service learning student, have them submit a placement proposal using the link provided on the Information for Community Partners page ( ) . They can also contact us at and we will work with them to create a placement for you.

Please note that to create a meaningful partnership, it takes time to answer questions and complete all necessary paperwork. Students are advised to begin the “Create Your Own Placement” process several weeks in advance of when they plan to take CTLB03.
