January 28, 2019 - 17:00 to 19:00

Gearge Brown College, Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts, 300 Adelaide St. E, Room 251, Toronto

Dr Amy Trubek will explain and explore the food agency pedagogy, that is a certain approach to teaching people to cook by allowing them to feel empowered to act. This is based on a  inquiry that Amy and her research group are currently exploring and testing with different types of learners. Amy will lead the culinary session using that model and will discuss the reasons why this approach is now needed for home cooks.

The Learning Goals of the talk are:

  • Develop a skillful cooking practice
  • Identify and navigate the full cycle of actions necessary in making a meal
  • Appreciate and analyze sensory components of food and the social benefits of shared meals
  • Increase self-efficacy in meal preparation
  • Develop the capacity to move from idea, to action, to result for multiple recipes
