Professor Hunter and Professor Dahl researching social impacts of HIV/AIDS in Africa

Professor Mark Hunter (Department Human Geography) and Professor Bianca Dahl (Department of Anthropology) are examining the social impacts of HIV/AIDS in Africa. Professor Hunter has researched in South Africa for many years. He is motivated to understand the societal, historical, and economic trends driving the HIV/AIDS epidemic in South Africa. “I began to wonder why I was studying labour when I was going to funerals every weekend,” said Professor Hunter. “I was totally overwhelmed with how many people were dying of AIDS.”
 
AIDS has killed more than 25 million people around the world, while another 34 million live with the disease. Nearly one in every 20 adults in sub-Saharan Africa lives with HIV.
