GTA Invasive Species Awareness Day

GTA Invasive Species Awareness Day

Sat April 21, 2018 10 AM- 4 PM

We’re being invaded!!! Are you passionate about protecting the GTAs ecosystems?!

On April 21st, The University of Toronto-Scarborough is hosting the first ever GTA Invasive Species Awareness Day. Coordinated by UTSC’s Professional Masters of Environmental Science students, the event will bring together regional conservation professionals, scientists, and Toronto citizens to discuss the science and management of invasive species in the GTA. Come out to learn from leading scientists, engage in workshops, and have a casual chat with our Masters students while helping yourself to coffee and refreshments. Join St. Williams Nursery & Ecology Centre and Durham’s Master Gardeners in native plant gardening workshops. Walk around the open floor and familiarize yourself with the species invading Toronto. Are your kids budding environmentalists? Bring them along! There will be lots of fun activities to spark their young minds! We’ll even have the Juno-nominated folk group GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS stopping by to cap off the event with a musical performance!

Scheduled presentations include:

  • Dan Simberloff (Keynote speaker) • University of Tennessee-Knoxville
  • Colin Cassin • Ontario Invasive Plants Council
