Graduate Networking Event 

This year, The Center for Teaching and Learning welcomed keynote speaker Dr. Steve Easterbrook, Director of the School of the Environment and Professor of Computer Science at U of T.  The event also featured a panel of alumni sharing their experiences on careers beyond academia, along with pre- and post-event receptions. Come mix and mingle with our guests, including graduate program alumni working in the GTA.

The importance of transdisciplinary skills in an uncertain future

If there is one thing we can be sure of, the coming decades will be nothing like the past. The climate emergency, coupled with growing wealth inequality and the dominance of digital technologies mean we are now in a period of massive economic and political transition. For students graduating into this world, the traditional notion of a "career path" no longer exists. So what do universities need to do to equip students with the skills needed for this uncertain world, and what can students do to prepare?

MEnvSc Info Session 2020

On January 18, we hosted our 4th MEnvSc info Session. This was a great opportunity for prospective MEnvSc applicants to learn more about the MEnvSc program and to interact with faculty, program staff, and students/alumni. The Graduate team is extremely grateful to all those who, despite the harsh weather, were able to join in. A special shout-out to our Students and Alumni for graciously attending and providing their valuable insights. They are always the highlight of the session. Click for more pictures.

Convocation 2019

MEnv Social Night

On Nov 5, one hundred MEnvSc alumni, students, faculty and staff got together to celebrate the accomplishments of our outgoing MEnvSc cohort and welcome our current cohort of over 90+ students! A great opportunity for Alumni to reconnect with UTSC faculty and classmates and the first networking experience of the academic year organized by the Department to the current MEnvSc students.

Welcoming Retreat - September 26 - 28, 2019

As in previous years, the MEnvSc incoming cohort, together with some faculty and staff, headed up North to Beausoleil Island (Georgian Bay Islands National Park).The trip included two overnight stays at Camp Kitchikewana (S’mores included!), interpretative hikes and team building exercises.The group returned to Toronto excited and thankful for the opportunity to meet and mingle with their peers. Internship Poster Presentation Day - September 9, 2019

This event provided an excellent opportunity for the outgoing MEnvSc students to return to campus and share their experiences in-person with faculty, staff, employers and with each other. The incoming MEnvSc cohort also greatly benefited from the event as they were able to network with their peers, understand the internship process and the diversity of potential internships positions available and get firsthand tips on the program. Environmental Science Graduate Orientation - September 5, 2019

The Environmental Science Graduate orientation was held September 5 at Miller Lash House and this year we welcomed 94 MEnvSc students and 10 PhD students to our department. The day began with a breakfast and Student Services fair and followed by a rotational meet and greet where students moved to different tables to get to know one another and met with a faculty member, a postdoc or a senior graduate student seated at each table.
