DHS Professor Receives Principal’s Impact Award

A Department of Health and Society professor has received an award recognizing the impact of their research on broader society.

Assistant Professor Nicholas Spence is this year’s recipient of the Principal’s Impact Award, bestowed by the Vice-Principal Research and Innovation. The award identifies and celebrates outstanding examples of scholarship and knowledge mobilization achievements that have a positive impact on the inclusion and empowerment of partner organizations and the community. 

“My dedication to research has always been anchored in the hope that I can make meaningful contributions to enhance the health and well-being of society at the local, national, and global levels,” says Prof. Spence. “Receiving this award, which emphasizes research impact beyond academia, is a true honor!”

Prof. Spence joined the Health Studies Program from Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital where he was a research fellow. His highly interdisciplinary work focuses on inequality, as well as social and psychosocial determinants of health and well-being, using a wide variety of methodological approaches.
