Preparing for Success in First Year
University courses tend to differ from high school courses in terms of content, setup, structure, and workload. For example, university course sizes may vary from 50 to 500 students per class and often incorporate mandatory pre-class readings as well as post-class tutorials in which a teaching assistant reviews the course content in a smaller group setting. Generally, students will attend two to three hours of lecture per week for a given course and are expected to study two to three hours for each hour of lecture. Watch the video.
As a first-year Management student you will be pre-enrolled in your required core Management courses. View a list (PDF) of the core courses in the first-year Management program.
During your first year you may also choose to take electives to complete your breadth requirements. To learn more about electives and breadth requirements, and to prepare for course selection, please use the Course Selection Module for incoming first-year students.

It is recommended that you purchase these materials before your classes start.

Preparing for Management Co-op
U of T Scarborough Management is a leader in creating and delivering high-quality experiential learning opportunities—or, Work-Integrated Learning (WIL)—for each one of our students. This is most clearly expressed in our 100% WIL guarantee: as part of our commitment to develop the “Experience to Lead”, U of T Scarborough Management ensures that every Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student completes at least one WIL experience prior to graduation. Our dynamic learning model helps students develop relevant skills by applying their foundational business training to create innovative solutions for scenarios that are co-designed by our faculty and external partners. Learn more about WIL.
Co-operative education is a form of WIL based on a three-way partnership between the University of Toronto, the student, and the employer. For students enrolled in the Management Co-op BBA program, paid work terms alternate with study terms and provide you with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience before graduating, thereby helping you determine which career best fits your skills and interests. Learn more about Management Co-op.
All Management Co-op students will be pre-registered for the Advancing Your Career Exploration (AYCE) course. The AYCE course is composed of two non-credit half courses. It is designed to fully prepare you for the co-op job search process, provide insights into employer needs, and share experiences from other students to help you transition into the workplace. You will gain experience in networking, writing resumes and cover letters, and interviewing. AYCE must be completed before you start seeking for your first co-op work term.
