Around the world every year, March 8 is celebrated as International Women’s Day. It is a day to celebrate the cultural, social, political and economic achievements of women, while also recognizing the continued action needed to achieve gender equality. 

Here's four events you can attend this week to celebrate International Women’s Day all week long.

Tuesday, March 5

Crowns For Change

Flower crowns have symbolic meaning in representing historical feminist movements. Make a beautiful flower crown and take an Instagram-worthy photo in front of the flower backdrop.

Thursday, March 7

Redefining Success and Breaking Down Barriers – an International Women’s Day Panel

A panel of incredible women get real about the challenges of being a woman in male-dominated spaces and offer tools for navigating them. UTSC Athletics & Recreation will be unveil an International Women’s Day campaign sharing messages that empower and affirm women, and people of all genders, to define health and wellness for themselves and create a culture of support where everyone is encouraged to reach their personal wellness goals.

Global Commons: Gender Equality Matters

The Hart House Global Commons will connect students in Canada with others in Colombia, the United States, South Africa, and France, along with and a wide range of community partners and civil society actors to explore these and other questions and actions geared towards building better societies that reflect, uphold, and institutionalize the full equality of women.

Women’s Writing Circle

Write something creative, fun and meaningful (and not for coursework or your job!) The Women's Writing Circle is about your expression and connecting with other women on campus. All U of T Scarborough staff, faculty and students who identify as women or trans people are welcome. Hot lunch is included.
