Professor Maydianne Andrade has earned a human rights prize from the University of Toronto for innovative training in unconscious bias.

Andrade, who in 2017 was named Vice Dean, Faculty Affairs and Equity, launched a transformative University-wide program of peer-to-peer training in unconscious bias that was developed with the Toronto Initiative for Diversity and Excellence. The program has help make U of T a leader in the field of unconscious bias training, inspiring other Canadian universities to adopt fairer hiring.

She recently received the Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize for her work. The prize was one of several recently given to faculty, staff and students as part of the 2019 Awards of Excellence, which are presented annually to U of T’s most outstanding leaders.
