The University of Toronto is offering sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families of Sunday night's shooting on Danforth Avenue, which left two people dead and 13 people wounded.
A gunman opened fire on Sunday around 10 p.m. on Danforth Avenue in an area lined with restaurants and cafés. After a brief exchange of gunfire with the police, the suspect was found dead.
Toronto residents took to social media using the hashtag #DanforthStrong to show solidarity with the victims, their families, and residents who live in the area.
“The Danforth is one of Toronto’s most vibrant communities, attracting local residents and visitors to the restaurants and shops that have made this area so popular,” said U of T President Meric Gertler. “The Danforth and its neighbourhoods are also home to hundreds of U of T students, faculty and staff who have been directly affected by this horrific event.
"It is understandable that anyone in our community would be feeling anxious and ill-at-ease after an incident like this. Please remember that the University is here to support you."

An interfaith vigil will be held on Wednesday evening beginning at Danforth Church. It's scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
