Sonia Sedivy Promoted - Jul 2021

The department is thrilled to announce that Sonia Sedivy has been promoted to the rank of full professor, effective July 1, 2021.

Sedivy, who has worked in the department for more than 20 years, serves as the current chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Her primary research and teaching interests are in the philosophy of mind, especially the philosophy of perception; in aesthetics, with a focus on visual art; and in the later work of Ludwig Wittgenstein. In Beauty and the End of Art: Wittgenstein, Plurality, and Perception (Bloomsbury, 2016) she uses Wittgenstein’s later work and contemporary theory of perception to offer new approaches to art and beauty that explain the historical and cross-cultural plurality of both. June of 2021 will see the publication of her edited collection of newly commissioned articles titled Art, Representation, and Make-Believe: Essays on the Philosophy of Kendall L. Walton (Routledge).
