Chinese Bridge 2024 - Proficiency Competition Winners

Participants at the 2024 Chinese Bridge competition

Two UTSC students, Declan McLean and Renee Wright-Baylis, from Dr. Renee Wang's LGGA and LGGB courses, have achieved remarkable success. Over the past weekend, they won the first and second prizes respectively in the 23rd "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, Ontario/Manitoba Preliminary!

The competition contains two rounds: a Chinese speech and a talent show. This year, we had contestants from York University, the University of Toronto Mississauga, and Toronto Metropolitan University. Declan and Renee impressed everyone with their passion and dedication to Chinese language and culture. Declan performed Chinese calligraphy and a heartfelt Chinese love song, while Renee delivered a beautiful singing and dancing performance in traditional Chinese attire. Declan’s first-place win also earned him a trip to China for the international competition.

A big thank you to Dr. Helen Wu for her invaluable support as a judge during the event.

Finally, congratulations to both of our winners! May your studies in the Chinese language be fruitful throughout your undergraduate careers at UTSC.
