Proper management of chemicals and other hazardous materials is critical to ensuring safe working and learning environments. To help manage these materials and reduce risk, the University of Toronto joined a growing number of Canadian universities participating in the Higher Education Cooperative for Hazardous Materials and Equipment Tracking project, or HECHMET. As part of HECHMET, U of T uses a web-based chemical inventory program called Vertere to track its chemicals. The program was officially launched in 2017 at UTSC and implementation is well underway.
