EHS 576 WHMIS for Non-Lab Staff

Canada has aligned the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR), which came into force in 2015, have incorporated GHS elements, resulting in new standardized classification criteria, labels and Safety Data Sheet requirements. 

 

EHS 576 - WHMIS for Non-Lab Staff

Required for: This course is intended for office, non-research staff / supervisors in a research-intensive department, facilities management, maintenance and caretaking, and any other employees who may work with or near chemicals outside of a lab environment. Prerequisites: none.

Includes: Online course (approx. 1 hour), followed by a quiz with a passing mark of 80%. 

Description: The course content covers WHMIS legislation; the basics of WHMIS labelling and obtaining information from Safety Data Sheets; and how to control for different types of hazards. 

Refresher: This course should be taken every 3 years.
