Description
a)
Central focus of theme:
The Institute brought together twelve leading feminist scholars from China
to explore feminist research and teaching initiatives in higher education
in Canada and China. It provided a platform for involved feminist scholars
to discuss the path, process, and future prospect of the development of
women's studies in Canada and China. The exchange and discussion allowed
both sides to further develop collaborative undertakings that addressed
mutual interest and learning.
b)
International scholarly/scientific significance:
This initiative was based upon years of fruitful collaboration between
feminist scholars at the University of Toronto and several major universities
in China. It provided rare opportunities for cross-cultural comparison,
dialogue, and mutual learning. For the China side, the academic extended
network facilitated institutional capacity building and ensured success
in dissemination of the results. Such event also enhanced emphasis and
effort of University of Toronto on cultural diversity in curriculum.
