A Labour History of Wine Service

Research Summary:

Daniel Bender has spent the last year or so initiating a new project called a labour history of wine service. As participant observation fieldwork, he is training in wine certification and is currently pursuing WSET Diploma certification, an arduous study and test process stretching over 18 months to 3 years. Linked to this project, he has undertaken fieldwork among winemakers and growers in the Alto Piemonte region in Northern Italy. This work uses concepts of industrial debris and ecological crisis to examine how contemporary winemakers grapple with labour and environmental histories
