Biography: Dr. Marney Isaac is a Professor in the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences and the Department of Global Development Studies and is the (co)Director of the Sustainable Food and Farming Futures Cluster at the University of Toronto. She holds the Canada Research Chair in Agroecosystems and Development. Dr. Isaac’s research contributes new social-ecological dimensions to generate contemporary insights into sustainable agroecosystem policy and practice. She leads an interdisciplinary research lab that applies novel approaches to explore plant-soil interactions, nutrient cycles and ecosystem function in diversified agroecosystems, as well as the social processes that lead to agroecological transitions. Currently, Dr. Isaac serves on multiple research networks, including the NSERC funded Design of Living Infrastructure for Ecosystem Services training platform, the international Diversified Agroecosystems Research Network, and the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada supported Organic Science Clusters program. Dr. Isaac is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Ecology, Agronomy for Sustainable Development, and Biotropica. She has published widely in environmental science, agronomic, ecology and multi-disciplinary sustainability science journals.
