Prof Stephen Rockel authors new book chapter on the impact of the 1883 eruption of the Krakatau volcano

HCS's Prof Stephen Rockel has authored a chapter in the recently released Droughts, Floods, and Global Climatic Anomalies in the Indian Ocean World, which explores the impact of climatic anomalies on human and environmental systems across the Indian Ocean World.

Rockel's chapter entitled “A Forgotten Drought and Famine in East Africa, 1883-85” discusses the effects of the 1883 eruption of the Krakatau volcano on atmospheric circulation and rainfall on equatorial eastern Africa, and its contribution to widespread famine.
