Announcements February 2024

February, 2024: To prepare for the development of the new SAMIH building and the Retail and Parking Commons, several changes will be taking place on the UTSC North campus, which may impact the day-to-day activities, operations and facility use for staff, faculty, students, and librarians.

Additional to the below: Construction on Military Trail at Pan Am Drive

As part of the continued development of the north campus, you will notice lane reductions on Military Trail at Pan Am Drive and other minor work impacting the campus lanes and vehicular routes.

Of particular note, during the week of February 12th, there will no left hand turn from Military Trail onto Centennial Circle and no left hand turn from Military trail to Pan AM drive, accessing the north parking lots. A follow-up communication will be shared, stating the end date of this temporary road restriction.

During this time, for individuals utilizing Durham Rapid Transit for their campus commute, buses will divert this intersection on these dates, adding slightly more time to your commute.

Commuters who normally approach the north parking lots from Morningside Ave to Military Trail, should consider using Ellesmere Road to Military Trail to access Parking Lot G. Please see map image below for visual reference.

FAQ FOR NORTH CAMPUS DEVELOPMENTS:

What are the major developments taking place on campus?

  • TPASC PARKING LOT:
As of October 10, 2023 the TPASC south parking closed down with a new interim parking (the East Lot) located across from the East Entrance to the Centre. The interim East Lot contains the same number of parking spots and will still offer two hours complimentary parking. TPASC parking rates can be found here.
  • PAN AM DRIVE ROAD CLOSURE:
Part of Pan Am Drive will be closed as of February 23, 2024. The Pan Am Drive road closure will begin at the southeast corner of the TPASC building and end at parking lot G. Note: the TPASC interim parking lot (the East Lot) and parking lots G and H will remain accessible. For individuals who use Pan Am Drive to access the campus, please include additional time for your commute by utilizing re-routes. (See map, below.)
  • THE CAMPUS FARM FOOT PATH:
The foot path to the campus farm will be relocated alongside the new interim parking lot across from TPASC building.

What does this mean for my daily commute time?
For those who commute to campus by vehicle, you may experience heavier traffic while part of Pan Am Drive is closed, especially during peak commuting hours. For those who use Pan Am Drive to park in lots G and H, you will need to use the Military Trail entrance point.

Will the current Military Trail bus stop be relocated to make room for these onsite developments?
The current Military Trail bus stop will remain where it is, no relocation will be required.
