New art show opens at Doris McCarthy Gallery

The Doris McCarthy Gallery kicks off its 2009/10 exhibition with its first show, Liz Magor: Storage Facilities. The exhibition opens Sept. 16 and runs to Oct. 25.
Liz Magor is a senior Canadian artist with an international reputation. She has represented Canada at the Venice Biennale and Documenta, received the Governor General’s Award for Visual Arts, and recently won the Audain Prize for Lifetime Achievement in the Visual Arts.
Storage Facilities is a series of recent sculptures – casts of clothing, cigarettes, liquor, candy, and the bodies of small animals – that continues the artist’s practice of investigation into issues of authenticity and representation, while suggesting social and environmental decay.
Liz Magor will deliver an artist’s talk at a public reception taking place on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Doris McCarthy Gallery. She will also give a lecture on Sunday, Sept. 27 in the gallery as part of U of T’s regular Contemporary Art Bus Tour series. For more details, visit the gallery web site at: www.utsc.utoronto.ca/dmg
