Students at the University of Toronto Scarborough say they were “electrified” with excitement at the talk given on campus on March 8 by Canadian football great Michael “Pinball” Clemons. For more photos of the event, click here.
Despite being only 5'6" and 170 pounds, Clemons is renowned as one of the most exciting players in pro football history. Although he is the Canadian Football League's all-time all-purpose yardage leader and a CFL hall of famer, it is his exceptional character and dynamic personality that have made him a remarkable fan favorite throughout Canada.
Clemons’ tireless community involvement and participation in countless charities exemplify a set of qualities so rarely found in today's professional athletes. The event was organized by UTSC’s department of student life as part of its Perspectives on Leadership Series.
Superb leadership and communication skills have helped Clemons in his former roles of coach and president of the Toronto Argonauts - and now as the vice-chair of the franchise. Students say his presentation in the ARC theatre was captivating and empowering and demonstrated what can be accomplished through faith in each other and effective teamwork.
The presentation left students with a better idea of what is possible and what it means to beat the odds. Clemons communicated his heartfelt stories with a passionate spirit and his patented, contagious smile, and audience members said they were inspired by one of Canada's most beloved community members.
