Professor William F. Ruddiman is giving a lecture at UTSC on Tuesday Feb 10th, at 6 pm in AC223 titled “Pre-industrial Agriculture Prevented Present-Day Glaciation”. It is sponsored by the University of Toronto Centre for Global Change Science.
He is speaking on the impact of agriculture of Earth’s climate and the possibility that enhanced carbon dioxide release beginning at the birth of the agricultural revolution may have prevented Earth (and Canada) experiencing another ice age.
He is an internationally-acknowledged climate change expert and the author of Earth's Climate: Past & Future, and has published many articles in Scientific American, Nature, and Science. He recently retired as Professor of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia, following many years as a Senior Research Scientist at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.
His most recent book (2007) is Plows, Plagues, and Petroleum: How Humans Took Control of Climate.
