#UoftGrad17: Charles Dumrique

Charles Dumrique has used what he has learned in his studies in Statistics and Economics for Management to start his own business, CHARLIE BITES Dessert Snacks at the Farmer’s Market.

And his passion for food also allowed him to find what he calls U of T Scarborough’s best-kept secret: free food.

“There’s so much free stuff/food on campus. You just have to look for it,” he says.

However, that is not all Dumrique is proud of accomplishing while at U of T Scarborough. He helped create the Athletics & Recreation’s Outdoor Recreation Program.

“Together with Laurie Wright and Simone Robinson, we were able to go on numerous outdoor excursions with more than 1,200 participants since summer 2015,” he says.

Dumrique has been involved in the Department of Athletics and Recreation in many different ways, from playing on intramural teams to teaching Basketball and being a Sneaker Squad Leader.

Where did you go to high school?

I went to Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School.

What was your favourite class? Why?

My favourite class was STAC67: Regression Analysis. I did really well in the class and enjoyed it a lot. My professor was very kind and helpful.

Quick tip for new first years?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Always ask questions like, “Where is the free food?”

What should every student do before graduating?

Walk down to the valley and have a picnic.

What’s the best-kept secret at UTSC?

UTSC has an amazing trail system around it. The UTSC Valley is a place where you can go for a walk to clear your mind and if you’re lucky, see some deer along the way.

Where did you feel most at home on campus?

I feel most at home with the Athletics & Recreation Department. They have so many programs where you get to relax, get fit, stay active, meet new friends, and enjoy the sports and activities that I love.

If we call you up in five years, where do you think we will find you?

You will find me working at my own firm or at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
