Toronto, ON– The University of Toronto at Scarborough Arts Management Co-op Program will present Abhishek Mathur with the second annual Pfizer Award for Emerging Arts Managers.
Abhishek, a graduate of the York University M BA in Arts and Media Administration Program, is the founder of Magic Feet Canada - a business that creates greater awareness of South Asian Culture in Canada and promotes cultural awareness of Canada in India. Mathur’s works, such as this summer’s Masala! Mehndi! Masti! Festival at Harbourfront Centre that attracted over 80,000 people, are very popular and prove “his focus on ‘new generations’ of creators is much needed”, according to Melanie Fernandez, Manager of Community and Education Programming.
Two accomplished young managers will take home a Pfizer Special Commendation. Jason van Eyk, also an alumnus of York’s MBA Program in Arts and Media Administration, is currently the Ontario Regional Director of the Canadian Music Centre. Jody Townshend, an alumna of UTSC’s Arts Management Co-op Program is employed as the Development Officer, Major Gifts of the Royal Ontario Museum.
Both deserve special recognition for their success in their given fields.
The award, sponsored by Pfizer Consumer Group, a division of Pfizer Canada Inc., is unique in that it recognizes the achievements of emerging Canadian arts managers with only 2 to 5 years’ experience in the field. Pfizer Consumers Group also sponsors arts management academic and placement scholarships at UTSC as well as a general scholarship open to all students.
WHAT: Second annual award being presented by UTSC at the annual general meeting of the Association of Cultural Executives.
WHEN: Thursday November 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. – award given at approximately 6:45 p.m.
