The University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) was acknowledged in a recent speech to the members of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. In his June 3 remarks at Queen’s Park, Wayne Arthurs, MPP Pickering-Scarborough East, addressed the significance of the recent investment from the provincial and federal governments for UTSC’s new instructional centre.
“I had the privilege to join Professor Franco Vaccarino, principal of UTSC, in announcing that through the knowledge infrastructure program, the University of Toronto Scarborough has received $70 million to fund the development of a new instructional centre…This development will result in the single largest expansion at UTSC since 1966 and will increase teaching and research space at the school by 25 per cent,” said Arthurs.
UTSC’s instructional centre project was one of the largest investments announced in the Province of Ontario for colleges and universities. It will be complete by 2011 and will have a dramatic impact on the quality of the student experience.
Arthurs congratulated UTSC and underscored the significance of the major changes taking place here, including selection within the Pan Am Games bid as the site for a $170-million world-class athletic complex.
“The University of Toronto Scarborough is undergoing a fundamental transformation and without a doubt will be recognized not only in Toronto and Ontario, but throughout the whole of Canada,” said Arthurs.
