University of Toronto Scarborough will be closed during the same dates as the rest of the university.   During this period, the following points should be taken into account:

* For personal safety reasons, faculty, staff and students entering (and leaving) the buildings are asked to do so through the Main Entrance (Science Wing) and to advise Police Services of their presence. Unauthorized persons will be denied entry. Studying on campus over the holiday period will not be permitted.
* There will be no cleaning staff on duty during the holiday closing. Departments requiring caretaking services during this period must make prior arrangements with Facilities Management through Wayne Painter – Supervisor of Caretaking (email at painter@utsc.utoronto.ca). Costs will be charged to the requesting department at overtime rates. Such arrangements should be made no later than close of business, December 15, 2006.
* As in previous years, the University intends to take advantage of this period of low activity to reduce energy consumption. While essential services will be maintained in critical areas, such as animal care facilities and the Science Wing research areas, the ventilation and ambient temperatures in most of the campus buildings will be reduced below the standard comfort level of 20 degrees C.  Those who intend to work during this period should take this into account. A skeleton staff of Operating Engineers will be on duty to ensure that all systems are operating and to respond to emergency calls only.
* Any security issues or Building Systems breakdowns should be reported immediately to Police Services at 7398.
* Athletics will re-open for normal activity at 7:45 AM on Thursday, January 4, 2007.
* Routine service for garbage and recycling will resume on January 4, 2007. Snow will be removed from all Fire Routes, entrances to the Science Wing, Student Centre and Athletics buildings, all inner parking lots, Student Residence walkways, and valley roads on an as-required basis or Emergency call-in by Police Services during the closing period with the exception of December 25 and January 1.

Please direct any concerns regarding these arrangements to derenzis@utsc.utoronto.ca
