UTSC’s department of physical and environmental sciences (DPES) has received accreditation from Canada’s leading environmental sciences professional development organization—a landmark accomplishment for the program.
“This really speaks to the quality of our faculty and acknowledges the strength of our program,” says UTSC vice-dean of graduate education and program development William Gough, who was the former chair of DPES.
The accreditation from the Environmental Careers Organization (ECO) of Canada covers UTSC’s Honours BSc in environmental science as well as its major programs and the joint program in environmental science and technology with Centennial College.
A non-profit established in 1992 to support the national environmental sector, ECO Canada develops professional skills, fosters relevant careers and conducts research to address human-resource needs in the field.
“It’s a body that has its pulse on the environmental workforce, so this—along with our co-op program—shows the high emphasis we place on finding meaningful careers in the field,” says Gough. “It really gives our program a distinct advantage.”
