Biography
Joseph’s recent work has explored, at the intersection of philosophy, literature, and history, the political and ideological dimensions of Plato’s dialogues. Focusing on themes such as civic identity, collective memory, and democratic sovereignty, this project advances an image of Plato as a socially situated and politically engaged thinker.
He is also beginning a project in the environmental humanities, which considers how the ancient Greeks might help us think about contemporary ecological issues, such as sustainability, disaster, anthropocentrism, and eco-anxiety.
