Prof. Souza is a cognitive neuroscientist by training, having earned his B.A. (2005) and M.A. (2007) in Psychology at UC Davis and his Ph.D. in Psychology at UC Berkeley (2010). He moved to Vancouver to join UBC Psychology as an Assistant Professor of Teaching in 2010 and was promoted to Associate Professor of Teaching in 2015. At UBC, he won multiple awards for his teaching, service, and educational leadership (e.g., Killam Teaching Prize in 2012/13). In 2016, Prof. Souza moved to Toronto to join UTSC Psychology as an Associate Professor (Teaching Stream) of Psychology and Neuroscience. 

Prof. Souza has taught a variety of courses in cognition and neuroscience here at UTSC (e.g., PSYB55PSYB57), including a number of courses he created and successfully passed through university governance (PSYC50PSYC70PSYD59). He has served in a variety of educational leadership positions at both UBC Psychology and UTSC Psychology, including Assistant Head of Undergraduate Affairs at UBC (2014-15), Associate Head of Undergraduate Affairs at UBC (2015-16), and Associate Chair (Undergraduate) at UTSC (2017-19). During his time as Associate Chair at UTSC, he coordinated a revitalization of the departmental curriculum, including strengthening admission requirements and prerequisite structures, renovating the approach to undergraduate research methods, updating and fortifying program-level learning outcomes, and an overall renewal the Neuroscience programs (incl. the creation of three streams for the Neuroscience Specialist).
