This October—Mental Health Awareness Month—the University of Toronto Scarborough will host a series of workshops and guest lectures, including an appearance by Canadian musician Steven Page.

Organized through UTSC’s Health & Wellness Centre, AccessAbility Services and in collaboration with the campus community, the programming aims to educate students, faculty and staff on mental health issues and to promote an awareness of the mental health services available on campus and in the surrounding area.

The celebration will kick off on Oct. 9 and culminate on Oct. 24 with a live appearance by Page, the former Barenaked Ladies frontman, who will discuss his well-publicized struggles with mental health and perform his music.

Also, an information fair entitled Mental Health Understood will take place on Oct. 10—Mental Health Awareness Day—and feature booths manned by various campus groups and community organizations that focus on mental well-being. In the evening following the fair, UTSC’s Principal, Professor Franco Vaccarino, will deliver a guest lecture, launching UTSC’s Mental Health Network.
