Camp Kawartha 2023

Students from Professor Kwan-Lafond's SOCB47 - Social Inequality course recently spent 3 days at Camp Kawartha with residential School survivor Peter Sackaney. Supported by TA Paul Pritchard, UTSC staff members Norm Javier (UTSC Campus Life & Special Events), Julie Witt (Integrated Learning Experience Team), and PhD student Taylor Tabobondung.

The students participated in the Kairos Blanket Exercise; a sharing circle with Peter; traditional stories with Peter in the tipi; and TRC art project Project of Heart.

On the way back the group stopped at the Whetung Centre in Curve Lake First Nation to meet IRS survivor Freddie Taylor.

This trip was supported by funds from UTSC’s Experiential Learning Mobility Fund, as well as staff from Team Xperience and the Office of Student Experience & Wellbeing.
