Biography

In 1984 Alexandra Morton began what she thought would be a life-long study into communication between killer whales in a remote area of the BC coast. As a result, she noticed changes that occurred when several million penned Atlantic salmon were placed in the ecosystem a few years after her arrival. For 35 years she grappled with how to communicate industrial impact and solutions to regulators using science, then the courts and finally activism. Morton has won many environmental awards, is named and culturally adopted by a First Nation. Simon Fraser University granted her a Doctor of Science, honoris causa, for her research into impact of farm salmon sea lice and viruses. She has published six books. Morton will share insight into the science that allows salmon to teach us how to work with the natural laws to the benefit of life on earth.
