Tell us about your experience at Samsung.

One of the things I absolutely loved about my time at Samsung was the incredible exposure to cross-divisional teams and stakeholders. I had the privilege of working closely with a senior manager who guided me through overseeing and managing all aspects of a CRM national campaign, from creative briefing to legal reviews, internal testing, target segmentation, and deployment. Every member of the Corporate Marketing team was eager to share their experiences, invite me to participate in their projects, have a nice chat at lunch, and listen to my ideas and thoughts. Through this experience, I learned the importance of being an empathetic leader, going above and beyond in teamwork, and embracing creativity and innovation. Knowing that my projects had the potential to make a tangible impact across various teams was truly rewarding.

The structured nature of the Management Co-op program provides invaluable guidance every step of the way, from helping you become a competitive candidate for companies to assisting with building strong applications and excelling at each stage of the application process, which can be particularly challenging without proper guidance. Furthermore, the University of Toronto is renowned for its commitment to excellence, its reputation will undoubtedly enhance your applications, even in saturated job markets.

What are your career goals?

I am passionate about marketing, and pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Specialist in Management and International Business at U of T has been instrumental in gaining diverse experiences. I firmly believe that my recent position in CRM at Samsung and my upcoming role as a Field Product Marketer at Microsoft will equip me with a valuable set of skills to realize my goal of becoming a proficient leader and eventually venturing into entrepreneurship. Through my BBA program and work terms, I am currently expanding my skill set, laying the groundwork to lead various projects in the future. Moreover, my enduring passion for travel and analyzing situations from an international perspective fuel my excitement for upcoming exchange and work terms abroad. These experiences are poised to provide me with a broader understanding of different leadership styles, project management, and interpersonal skills. I’m incredibly enthusiastic about the next two years of university, as I see them as just the beginning of my career journey.

Advice for future students?

Embrace new challenges and connect with inspiring people. While seeking a co-op position can be daunting for many, I view it as an opportunity to broaden one’s skills and experiences. I encourage my peers and mentees to have confidence in their abilities and remain open to receive feedback, as it’s essential for continuous growth and improvement. Lastly, I urge them to approach everything with passion, determination, and enthusiasm.

The tagline of the Management program is Experience to Lead. What does that mean to you?

It embodies the thrilling challenge of bringing out the best in oneself and rediscovering our abilities as catalysts for change wherever we venture. I personally believe that true learning transcends our classrooms; it flourishes when we tackle real-world problems, collaborate with companies which have real challenges, and thrive within professional environments. Additionally, I believe in the power we, upper years, have on empowering next generations through sharing our experiences, as I remember being inspired by listening to others during my first year. Finally, I am thankful of having such a nice network to rely on, I wish to continue contributing positively to the community that motivates me to keep growing daily.
