Type: Therapy Group - Hybrid
In the first session, students will be introduced to a modern model of grief and learn what to expect in the grief process. The problematic culture of blame and shame around grief will be discussed and grief "myths" will be challenged.
Grief and loss can be experienced in response to the death of a loved one, the ending of a relationship, but also from more ambiguous losses such as those that arise from identity change or life transition. In this group, students will:
- Be introduced to a modern framework for viewing and working through grief and loss in its many forms. We recognize that this is a process and that students will move through grief in their own way and time.
- Learn how to navigate a culture that often blames and shames when it comes to grief
- Build strategies for coping with grief, including approaches drawn from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and self-compassion
- Identify resources for grief support beyond this group
Students will need to complete a short intake assessment before registering. Please email health.utsc@utoronto.ca if you are interested in this group.
