Academic English at UTSC is a summer language program designed to help newly admitted students to the University of Toronto Scarborough prepare for university study and meet the English Facility admission requirement.
Admission to this program is selective. We choose applicants who are highly qualified academically, but need to satisfy the English Facility admission requirement. If you are eligible for this program, you will receive a conditional offer of admission to UTSC and an invitation to register for Academic English. Only students who receive a conditional offer will be able to register.
Academic English is an eight-week program taught by faculty from the University of Toronto, School of Continuing Studies. The program supports students in developing required skills for academic reading, writing, listening and speaking, while providing an introduction to academic culture, communication, research and study skills. Successful completion of the summer Academic English program with a Grade of 'B' or higher will satisfy the University's English Language Facility Requirement.
