Mathematics at the University of Toronto Scarborough

Our program takes your learning across disciplines — you’ll develop a robust skillset in the foundations of mathematics while exploring its relationship to other sciences, giving you a wide-ranging, practical skillset. Whether you choose our specialist or major program, you can complement your education with real work experience through our co-op option, which offers three paid four-month work terms.

Our major program is designed to be combined with other programs, typically a major in another discipline, meaning you'll graduate with a degree personalized to your goals. Our specialist program gives you a sound foundation in the main areas of mathematics, along with core skills in computer programming and statistics. Tailor your studies with three specialist streams, crafted to prepare you for work as an educator, analyst, actuary, statistician or software engineer, or for a career in government or law:

  • Comprehensive stream: Gain a broad and deep knowledge of mathematics in this stream, built for students planning to pursue graduate study in mathematics and a range of career paths.
  • Statistics stream: You'll combine a foundational knowledge in statistics with a thorough understanding of closely associated areas of mathematics. Prepare for careers in industry, or for graduate study in mathematically-oriented subjects, including statistics and financial mathematics.
  • Teaching stream: This stream is customized for students aiming to teach mathematics education at the elementary or secondary level.
