Program summary
The Studio Art program at the University of Toronto Scarborough offers courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance art, video, new media, animation, and conceptual practices in art. The Studio Art curriculum is built around the idea that art is a means of expressing and understanding the human condition. The Studio Art experience is intended to expand the student's perception not only of what art is, but of why and how it is made, and to develop the ability to understand and experience the challenges of contemporary art.
Critical skills will expand along with practical skills. The Major Program in Studio Art gives a full and broad exposure to both the various processes of art-making and to recent developments in art criticism. It provides also some preparation for teaching at the high school or elementary level. The Minor Program in Studio Art is also for those with other academic interests but who are also interested in art.
