Moving assistance for students arriving without helpers
Students arriving by taxi and/or without move in helpers must still be dropped off in Parking Lot J at the check in tent. Assistance for shuttling your luggage to your residence hall area is available.
The University's Quarantine Accommodation program is available to support students' arrival to Canada. Students coming from outside of Canada must register on the StarRez Portal for one of three programs offered: The Full program (A), At Home program (B), or the Backup Quarantine Plan (C). Please refer to the Quarantine Guide for details about all three programs and for a step-by-step breakdown of the quarantine process. Space in the University’s Full Quarantine program (A) is limited, particularly in the last two weeks of August.
Students who register for A) Full Program Quarantine
If you would like to participate in the Full U of T quarantine program (A), please consider arriving and completing your 14-day quarantine in early August when demand for Full quarantine spaces is not as high. To do so, you must apply for a spot in the Full Quarantine program. Please be reminded that priority registration period for the Full Quarantine for First Year students to arrive in August goes until Wednesday, July 21. If you plan to apply, you should submit an application as soon as possible. Upon confirmation of your full program quarantine booking, our office will book your move in appointment for you to coincide with the end date of your quarantine. If you need to request to move into residence earlier than August 16 due to your quarantine ending before then, email our office before July 30.
Students who register for B) At Home Program Quarantine or C) Back up Quarantine plan
If you have a need to request to move in earlier than September 3 (no earlier than August 16), email us before July 30. All requests for early move in must be in writing. Additional fees for moving in early will be charged at the nightly rate for the residence room type you are assigned from the date of move in until September 2.
Early Move In Fees
Additional fees for moving in early will be charged at the nightly rate for the residence room type you are assigned from your date of move in until September 2. Fees range between $30-$45 per night depending on your assigned room type.
Students moving in earlier than the September 3-4 move in period should expect limited supports and services on campus. Campus and residence orientation activities will not begin until early September, and other campus services such as food outlets will be limited until the academic session begins. Students moving into residence early have access to 24/7 support from our office open Monday to Friday 9:00am-4:30pm and after hours from our on-call staff, however, no formal activities will be planned between August 16 to September 3, and you will not meet your Residence Advisor until late August.
Move in appointments will be available on the StarRez Portal for the period of September 5 to October 8. Even if you are moving in late, you must still sign up for a move in appointment between August 10 to 20.
If you are registered in the UofT Full quarantine program (A), our office will book your move in appointment for you based on the end date of your quarantine. All other students must sign up for their own late move in appointment.
Instructions for how to move into residence after September 4 will be emailed to you closer to your arrival date.
Please note that you are responsible for your full residence contract fees. Fees will not be prorated for students moving into residence later than September 4.
Room assignments will be sent out August 10/11, 2021. You will also be able to view your room assignment on Starrez. Please note: arriving earlier than September 3 could affect your room placement and/or our ability to meet specific housemate requests.
Our partnership with Residence Linens offers you the opportunity to pre-order your bedding and linens right to your residence room. If you are moving in during move in weekend, order by August 20, 2021 and your bedding will be in your room when you arrive. If you are arriving early (before September 3-4, 2021) you should order your linens at least 2 weeks before your move in date. View options at: https://residencelinens.com/.
All incoming-first year students are automatically registered for Residence Orientation at no additional cost. Residence Orientation is an exciting program that offers first-year students the chance to get to know fellow students in the residence community and become familiar with their new home in a comfortable yet exciting environment.
Each resident is required to complete a unit condition report verifying the condition of their residence room at move-in. This is an opportunity for students to identify and report any damaged or missing elements so that they can be fixed and to ensure that they are not held responsible for any damage they did not cause. This form must be completed within 1 business day moving in or your room will be deemed satisfactory.
If you find that anything is missing or damaged at move-in, or throughout the year, you should submit a Maintenance form on the StarRez Portal.
