Winter Break

The Residence Agreement dates exclude the Winter Break campus closure between the Fall and Winter academic sessions. This means that residents are expected to leave residence during the Winter Break campus closure and secure alternate accommodation during this period. Residents may leave their belongings locked in their rooms that they will return to in January. Residents who do not request housing during the closure will not have access to the Residences during the Winter Break closure.

Residents with exceptional circumstances, such as international and out-of-province residents who cannot return home for the Winter Break, may apply to stay in Residence during the Winter Break. An additional fee applies for use of space during this time. During the Winter Break, the University is closed and services will be limited. Food services are closed, there are no IT services, the Residence office is closed, and there are minimal staff on-site.

Leaving for the Winter Break

Residents will be emailed instructions for preparing their units for the Winter Break before the Winter exam period. Residents are expected to work together with their housemates to leave their units tidy.

Residents must vacate residence no later than 24 hours after their final exam, or Wednesday, December 21, 2023 by 12:00 pm noon, whichever comes first and can return after 10:00 am on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Winter Break Form – Must be completed by all current residents living in residence

All current residents must complete the Winter Break form under “Manage My Housing” tab on the StarRez Portal (found under your Fall booking) to report their plans for the Winter Break regardless of whether they are requesting to stay or are planning to leave for the break. The form must be completed by Friday, November 17, 2023, 4:00 pm EST.

The Winter Break form is available on StaRez Portal until Friday, November 17, 2023.

Winter Break Fees 

First Year Residents who are approved to stay during the winter break are subject to an additional fee of $965, which is comprised of $765 for a full winter break all-you-care-to-eat meal plan and $200 stay in residence for 17 days. First Year students staying for the break are required to enroll in the meal plan.

Upper Year Residents who are approved to stay during the winter break are subject to an additional fee of $200 stay in residence for 17 days. Upper Year students are not required to enroll in the meal plan.

Fees are charged to your financial account in ACORN by January 15, 2024 and must be paid in full before February 15, 2024 to avoid incurring interest.
